#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) hosted schoolchildren from Taimyr as part of the educational project Educational Voyage: Cultural and Historical Tourism of the Russian Arctic, the Taimyr press service reported.
The headquarters’ guests included 7-10-grades’ students from the city of Dudinka, the rural settlement of Hatanga, the villages of Karaul and Dikson. In addition to visiting the RGS office, during their stay in St. Petersburg, the children visited the museums of educational institutions of the city dedicated to the history of the Russian Arctic development, where they not only got acquainted with the exhibits, but also adopted the experience of creating thematic school museums and methodological materials on local history, information work on the preservation of historical heritage.
“The main goal of the Taimyr schoolchildren’s visit is educational: an opportunity show schoolchildren the history of the Arctic and their native land development, including by studying the materials of the Great Northern Expedition. All this, in the future, being part of career guidance activities, will help increase the interest of children in professions related to work in the Far North”, said Sergey Nikolayev, head of the department for the development of interaction with the Arctic region of the St. Petersburg Committee for Arctic Affairs.
Let us recall that the author of this project is the Taimyr local foundation for the promotion of science, culture, education and sports Krasnoyarsk Arctic, which pays special attention to activists of school museums, young army members, schoolchildren involved in tourism and local history associations.
