The improvement of the Dolgoe Lake park began in 2017. The former wasteland has already become a public place where the townspeople spend their free time and walk with their children. They put the main city Christmas tree in winter and organize city events in the park in summer.
The work on creating an open public space is carried out by the Norilsk Development Agency (NDA) and the municipality with the support of Nornickel.
The arrangement of the park will continue soon. A sports area will appear on the artificial turf. The agency purchased 16 types of simulators and a sports complex. Under the terms of the contract, delivery and installation must be completed by the end of July. Fountains will also open where two decorative bowls are located.
Last year, on the initiative of the NDA, three methods of landscaping were tried in the park: traditional grass sowing, water sowing, and lawn planting using biomats.
“This year we are going to continue the experiment, and add the seeds of plants familiar to the Norilsk tundra: tansy, fireweed, cotton grass, chamomile — collected by our volunteers last autumn and put into the biomats canvas. We will determine the most effective gardening method in order to use it next year in new sections of the park”, the NDA said.
Last autumn, on the Far North Research Institute experts recommendations, 20 cotoneaster bushes, 15 birch seedlings and 6 Japanese sherry bushes were planted in the Dolgoe Lake park. Seeding before freezing starts allows the root system to adapt to new soil better. Saplings were delivered to Norilsk from the Krasnoyarsk nursery.
“It is clear that they have wintered well. So, the experiment can be continued”, the agency said.
