The competition was organized by the National Research Institute Higher School of Economics and the presidential platform Russia – the Land of Opportunities as part of the national project Education. The Rediscovering Russia program has been implemented since 2017, during the time more than 300 expeditions were carried out, in which more than 3 500 students and teachers took part.

The winning expeditions will be held from April to July 2023 in 41 regions of the country. Two of them are being implemented in the Krasnoyarsk region. In particular, the expedition team Creation of Smart Energy-Efficient Housing in the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation will form a comprehensive vision for the development of Norilsk: students will draw up an analytical report and proposals for the Arctic House project, including using smart home technologies, passive methods energy savings, as well as monitoring the performance of the building throughout its life cycle. As a result of the expedition, an interactive web application will be created that demonstrates the benefits of the Arctic Home.

Previous research in this area was carried out by the North-Eastern Federal University in the Yakut village of Olenek. They also became winners of the Rediscovering Russia contest. The team of the Yakut student expedition in 2022 came to the conclusion that the best form of an energy-efficient individual house in Yakutia is a dome. What the research in Norilsk will show will be reflected in the results of the first season of expeditions in 2023 in the city.

Earlier, This Is Taimyr told about the Smart Home system, which the designers plan to use in a new residential building on Pavlov street in Norilsk.
