Severe snowstorm covered Norilsk at weekend

November 23, 2020

People held onto road signs and hid behind the houses.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. On Saturday, November 21, bad weather happened in Norilsk: blizzard was raging, the thermometers showed an abnormal temperature for November in the Arctic – plus 1. Wind gusts exceeded 20 m/s.

13 car accidents were registered in two days. Flights to the airport partly arrived and partly went to alternate airfields.

The wind tore off separate sheets off roofs. Starting from Wednesday, according to the forecast, there will be snow, blizzard and storm again.

After receiving a message from the Civil Defense and Emergencies about a storm warning, the municipal administration sent faxgrams to all management companies to prepare for adverse weather conditions, ensure emergency crews on duty, monitor the condition of roofs and facades, and clean access roads. On Saturday management companies took out 10 units of snow removal equipment. After the storm warning was cancelled, the organizations began active work on cleaning.
