#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The norms for the provision of sports infrastructure should be included in the plan for the social and economic development of the city of Norilsk until 2035.
The Arctic sports topic is actualized due to the fact that from May 2021 to 2023 Russia will chair the Arctic Council, which includes eight Arctic countries: Denmark, Iceland, Canada, Norway, Finland, Sweden, USA and Russia.
In addition, our country will compete for the right to host the International Arctic Winter Games in 2026. The application for the games was sent in April. The decision will be made by the end of this year.
Recall that in the north of the region there are 231 sports facilities in Norilsk, 63 facilities in the Taimyr Dolgano-Nenets municipal district and 54 facilities in the Turuhansk district. In the coming years, including at the expense of Nornickel, it is planned to build and reconstruct nine facilities in Norilsk, a sports complex is under construction in Turuhansk, and an athletics arena in Dudinka is planned to be built by 2023.
According to Igor Levitin, aide to the president of the Russian Federation, in addition to investments in sports infrastructure, it is important to create a plan of sports events in all nine constituent entities of Russia belonging to the Arctic zone. Competitions in Arctic sports should be organically included in the country’s sports calendar.
“In the coming years we have to radically change the image of Norilsk through the implementation of a comprehensive plan for the social and economic development of the city. In this document, it is necessary to take into account the development of the sports infrastructure. The quality of life of the northerners should get better”, said governor Alexander Uss.
