Reindeer herders can develop new markets for meat products

November 12, 2021

Due to changes in state standards, deer meat can now be stored for up to 18 months.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Rosstandart has increased the venison shelf life expiration from 12 to 18 months, provided that all requirements are met. The Department of Natural Resources, Ecology and Nature Management explained that the change in standards will allow reindeer farms to preserve and sell meat products without losses.

“In essence, this is a breakthrough for the entire industry, since the standard operates at the interstate level. This will increase the overall demand for reindeer products. Thanks to the new storage conditions, farms will be able to sell venison in new markets, participate in deliveries to Rosrezerv and other government agencies”, the department noted.

According to the news portal of the indigenous minorities, there are plans to increase the shelf life of stewed meat from 2.5 to five years. This will make it possible to sell meat products to the state reserve of the Russian Federation and participate in auctions to provide troops.

Let us remind you that venison is a classic of traditional Taimyr cuisine. This meat in Taimyr is considered almost medicinal. In our special section Taste of the North, the chefs shared recipes for salads, steak and fried potatoes with venison.
