#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Norilsk Trail is a cross-country race that has become traditional – the Haraelah mountains, the spurs of the Putorana plateau. The project is not only aimed at popularizing a healthy lifestyle, but has also become a tool for the development of sports tourism in Taimyr. Last year, more than 150 athletes from 19 cities of the country registered for the extreme start.
This year, the all-Russian sporting event is scheduled for August 17. Participants were offered four distances named after the animals living in our latitudes: 5 kilometers – Polar Fox, 15 kilometers – Reindeer, 30 kilometers – Peregrine Falcon and 50 kilometers – Polar Bear. This year, children will be also able to take part in the race at the Lemming fan distances of 500 meters (for young athletes under five years old) and 1 kilometer (for children over six years old).
“This year we decided to shorten the Polar Fox distance to 5 kilometers, so that the start would be more active and people with different levels of training could take part in the race with pleasure. Sport brings people together, and it will be great if preparing for a race becomes a new activity for uniting work teams, friendly groups and families. As for us, we will think about how to encourage such friendly teams”, says Igor Berdyugin, specialist in the tourism development direction of the Norilsk Development Agency.
Moreover, the race is not only a sporting competition, but an interesting event. This year, as well as previous ones, trail runners will be cheered on by fans together with charismatic presenters, accompanied by musical accompaniment and performances by creative groups, and everyone will be able to taste northern local products and more at the open-air food court.
