Polar Media School continues to share its experience

December 16, 2024

In the tenth anniversary season, the number of guest speakers has increased.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. In the new academic year, more than 50 listeners have already been recruited, and, as practice shows, their number will grow during the academic year. The main audience – pupils of 8-11th grades of secondary schools, as well as students of colleges, technical schools and universities.

The Media School in the Polar Region project, supported by the Nornickel company, has become a platform for aspiring journalists to gain theoretical knowledge, learn from more experienced colleagues during master classes, study the media from the inside, and become authors of publications in the leading regional media: over the previous nine years of the school’s work, more than 500 materials have been published in various publications in the Polar Region.

The media sphere is constantly evolving, and in order to keep up with modern trends, the project programme is regularly updated. For the tenth anniversary season, the organisers updated the curricula and increased the number of guest speakers. In addition to the regular teachers of the media school Igor Popov and Lada Myagkova, this academic year the leading representatives of the main federal media will conduct their master-classes. The series of presentations will be opened by Emma Gadzhieva, a TV presenter of Match TV channel, a teacher of the Match TV Academy and a participant of the World and European Figure Skating Championships.

The Media School in the Polar Region programme regularly proves its effectiveness: by the time the participants graduate, they collect a portfolio of publications in various media outlets and get recommendations from their mentors. Among the universities to which those who have completed the training are enrolled are the country’s leading educational institutions, such as Lomonosov Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University, Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, and many others.

“Participation in the media school opens the door to the profession of journalism for those children who want to develop in this field. We try to support active creative young people in every possible way and give them tools for improvement. Participants have the opportunity to meet media and cultural professionals, learn from the best and gain new contacts and connections that will help them find their place in the profession in the future. Interaction with experts and exchange of ideas allow young people to expand their horizons and get motivation for further growth. Media School in the Polar Region has become not just an educational project, but a real centre of attraction for young people who seek self-expression and development. This is an important step towards creating an active, proactive and creative generation capable of contributing to the life of the region”, commented Tatyana Smirnova, the Media School in the Polar Region project curator and the Nornickel Public Relations Department director.

Nornickel is interested in having a thinking, well-rounded generation with not only technical but also humanitarian education working and developing in the business areas. The young people attending the media school, with their knowledge, discussion skills and structured thinking, will contribute to making life more attractive in all its manifestations.
