Polar bear got a high-tech ice floe

July 10, 2020

The polar bear Marfa, rescued in Norilsk a year ago, was brought a gift from St. Petersburg.

The employees of the Rosneft subsidiary gave the bear now living in the Krasnoyarsk Royev Ruchey Park, a floating stage – a high-tech ice floe, very durable, able to support the weight of the polar bear. Marfa tested the toy immediately, diving with it in the pool and turning it over several times.

Recall that Marfa was noticed in Norilsk in June 2019. The animal was severely depleted and fed on a garbage dump. Now the bear has a spacious aviary with a swimming pool, a large den and many toys. When the bear was brought to Krasnoyarsk, its weight was only 106 kg, the veterinarians were afraid for her life for a long time and made great efforts to make Marfa recover and settle in a new place. Now it is a happy and slightly spoiled by attention lady, experts of the Royev Ruchey say. At the latest weighing the weight of the bear was 198.8 kilograms.

By the end of this year, they plan to relocate Marfa into a new aviary, which is now under construction. There will be a huge pool where the donated ice floe can be increased.

The polar bear recently celebrated her second birthday. The zoologists and veterinarians gave her toys, an ice cake with fruit and berries, and a bunch of all sorts of bear treats.
