#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Northern Wind brought new sports records, creative mood and bright emotions to the village of Nickel in the Murmansk region: the SUP festival has ended here.
The area is famous for a huge number of rivers and lakes – there are more than 100 thousand of them on the territory, so the organizers of the sports festival invited residents to try themselves in various water activities. The North Wind participants mastered stand-up surfing, practiced yoga and drew.
As part of the eco-festival, the world’s first stand-up basketball competition was also held. The rules of the competition are simple: the athlete had to swim on a sap to the point, stand on it and, in three attempts, hit the ring from a distance of ten meters. Staying on the board and hitting the floating target is not an easy task. However, the guest of the festival, the silver medalist of the Olympic Games in 3×3 basketball in Tokyo, Olga Frolkina, managed to get a standing ovation in the new sport.
During the holiday there were special zones for children. Little northerners were able to try their hand at master classes in drawing, photography and making soap bubbles.
According to Tatyana Smirnova, the Nornickel public relations department head, the festival is a wonderful tradition:
“It started in 2018 in cooperation with our good friends from the administration of the Pechenga district. Northern Wind is a family festival where everyone can find an activity to their liking, traditional water sports that are loved by northerners are available – stand-up surfing and stand-up yoga”.
Previously, surfers and literature lovers gathered in Nickel, in Norilsk, as in other cities where the Nornickel is presented, they held a picnic festival The City is Us!, Norilsk residents took part in the corporate regatta Summer in Good Company. City lake became a new place for SUP in Norilsk this year.
