#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. A large-scale project aimed at improving the mooring area of Ol-Gul lake, creating a comfortable all-season water area for outdoor activities, sports and tourism, became one of the winners of the social projects competition of the Nornickel’s charity program World of New Opportunities. 15 partner organizations are involved in its implementation.
It’s always been a dream of Norilsk people – to have a comfortable beach, a safe bathing zone, a place for training and competitions in water sports and tourism in the summer months. That is why even before the submission of the project application, the specialists of the ski base, in partnership with the Norilsk Development Agency and the city administration, carried out the lake studies: they took water samples, determined and mapped the depth, developed design estimates for the stage-by-stage improvement of the territory.
“According to the conclusion of the accredited laboratory, the lake water meets the SanRaN standards and, provided that the work of rescuers is organized, Ol-Gul will become the only open water body in Norilsk where you can swim!” – declare the developers of the Aquatoria-Norilsk project.
There is a lot of work to be done: the steep shores of the lake are planned to be terraced so that not only physically strong people, but also visitors with disabilities can reach the water, the beach is to be covered with new, clean sand. A summer cafe will operate on the territory, and for the residents of the city they are going to organize the rental of kayaks, sun loungers and sup-boards.
In winter, this place will also not be empty. The lake will become a playground for beginner skiers, including the smallest ones, as well as a place for dog sledding, banana riding, tubing, and Nordic walking. To explore the picturesque surroundings, you can use a specially installed binocular. The initiators of the project emphasize: the entire territory will remain in free – free of charge – access.
