In the Kayerkan ice palace, invited experts train future instructors.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Curling section opens in Kayerkan. In the ice palace, the preparatory work is being completed and the equipment is being set up.

For future athletes, the necessary equipment for the game have already been purchased: brushes, sliders, ice blocks sets, a watering can for creating pebbles on ice with a hose and a set of nozzles. In addition, we purchased special equipment: a scraper, a mop for preparing and removing ice, a nipper, markings, and a replaceable knife for an ice machine. There is also a set of stones, each of which is made of granite and weighs from 38 to 44 pounds (17.24 and 19.96 kilograms).

A specialist flew to the city from Krasnoyarsk and started training instructors and trainers.

“The appearance of a curling section in Norilsk is the appearance of new athletes in the region. I think that we will already be waiting for the teams and coaches to visit us. They will come and play with us (competitions, sparring), which will allow for a closer exchange of experience”, said Elena Komleva, member of the Krasnoyarsk region curling team, the regional Curling Federation secretary.

Andrey Zharnikov, a multiple winner of the championships and cups of the Krasnoyarsk region, winner and prize-winner of the Siberian Federal District championships in different years, a participant in all-Russian and international championships, a candidate for master of sports, a first category judge, also shared his skills in training.

The head of Norilsk, Dmitry Karasev, also tried out new equipment and tested his skills in curling.

“It’s very exciting. We should have had curling here earlier. There is equipment, desire, opportunity. In a few days, every young Norilsk resident will be able to come and join the curling club, try his hand at the professional side and get into the Norilsk team. In the future we will be able to compete with other territories of the region and achieve results in this sport”, said the city head.

Recall that at the end of May 2022, the International Curling Tournament WCT Nornickel Curling Cup was held in Dudinka. Six teams fought for victory on the Taimyr arena ice, including the Olympic teams with skips Sergey Gluhov and Alina Kovaleva. The guests of the competition were legendary athletes: figure skater Evgenia Medvedeva and biathlete Anton Shipulin.
