#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. In total, four books have been published in the project on the history of the Norilsk industrial region development under The Norilsk Phenomenon title.
The book, dedicated to the origin, formation, development of the metallurgical industry and enrichment of the Norilsk combine, as well as today’s transformations in the Nornickel composition, should have appeared after the publication of the Phenomenon second volume about the ore base in 2008. Instead, in 2010, a volume about the construction complex was prepared. Its title page read: “The Norilsk phenomenon. The Norilsk industrial region development history. Book 4”. The metallurgical Phenomenon has been waiting in the wings for 12 years.
According to the project’s deputy editor-in-chief Vladimir Mekhanik, work on the publication was resumed immediately after the death of the project manager, the Norilsk combine former director, Vladimir Dolgih, in December 2020. Among its main authors there are well-known Norilsk residents, metallurgists and enrichers Hazbechir Bazoev, Mikhail Naftal, Vladimir Polishchuk, Sergey Ershov, Alexey Ladygo.
The editorial board dedicated the publication on metallurgy and enrichment beyond the Arctic Circle to the memory of Vladimir Dolgih and his project colleague Igor Aristov, who died at the beginning of 2021.
In November 2022, the book was printed with a circulation of 1200 copies. Half of the print run will be delivered to Norilsk, where the publication presentation financed by Nornickel’s Polar Division will take place.
