#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. This year, judoists from the region’s capital took part in the regional-status tournament for the first time. However, the Davinci Judo team failed to win the first place in the team competition.
The event, which took place over two days at the Arctica arena, attracted about 130 participants.
“These competitions once emerged as a successful attempt to restore judo in Norilsk after the decline in the 1990s. At first the tournament was a city one, but for many years now it has held the title of a regional one”, said Andrey Levchenko, one of its organisers. “Every year, judokas from the Big Norilsk have participated in the tournament, but it is great that this year they are competing against guys from Krasnoyarsk. This always disciplines the athletes, makes them fight with more excitement and interest. This is exactly what we have seen”.
The Krasnoyarsk delegation was represented by nine athletes and two coaches.
“It is pleasant to note that the judo school in Norilsk has stable traditions. Our guys are annually included in the national team of the region, travelling to competitions of the Siberian Federal District, all-Russian tournaments. The spectators who came to the Northern Lights tournament could see members of the regional team among the fighters”, the organisers added.
Judoists have holidays ahead, and already on 8 February they will have a new big performance at the championship of the city. The competitions will also be held in the Arctica sports palace – it is expected that they will gather over a hundred participants as well.
