#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The sketch design of the Arctic-MP new generation of hydrometeorological satellites for monitoring the polar regions will begin in 2026.
According to RIA Novosti, now one Arctic-M satellite is working in orbit, it was launched in 2021. This year, another such apparatus is expected. Initially, the group was supposed to consist of two satellites, but in 2022 Roscosmos approved the task of modernizing the system up to four devices.
It is planned that in addition to the first two, four more Arctic-M satellites will be launched by 2031. By this time, the first apparatus’s active existence period will be completed and the second one will be about expiring.
The Arctic-M system in high-elliptical orbit is needed to create detailed super-short-core weather forecasts, detecting and monitoring dangerous natural phenomena and emergency situations in the Arctic region, building cloud and ice cards. According to the ex-head of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Alexander Sergeyev, a system of four satellites will be able to monitor the Arctic with good spatial and temporary permission every 15 minutes and receive up to two million images per year.
The Arctic-M meteorological condenser gives accurate forecasts for navigation for Severomorput, allows to observe all polar areas from a height of 30-40 thousand kilometers with a frequency of 15 minutes.
