Mobile canteen opened at Komsomolsky mine

October 24, 2024

Up to 500 employees will now have hot meals.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. In the near future, it will be connected to the administrative and amenity building by a covered passage, which will allow people to get to the canteen without going outside from the mine’s office.

This is already the second mobile canteen opened by ProService Taimyr catering organization at the Nornickel’s Polar Division enterprises. Another one has been operating since February in the Medvezhy Rouchey society and feeds up to 500 people daily.

The new canteen at Komsomolsky mine will have approximately the same number of mine employees per day.

As Mikhail Vodopyanov, the ProService Taimyr director, said, since the mine’s stationary canteen was closed for repairs about six months ago, employees have not got hot meals:

“An idea came up to build a mobile canteen. It is called this way because it can literally be transported from place to place when there is a need. For example, after opening a permanent canteen at Komsomolsky, we will assemble this room and move it to another location, because the program for upgrading enterprise canteens is ongoing. Such a mobile kitchen will also come in handy when the number of employees at a particular enterprise increases by attracting new contractors”.

The mobile canteen was manufactured in Izhevsk, installation took about three weeks, delivery took the same amount of time, and assembly on site took another three weeks. The new canteen can accommodate 52 seats, but this number can still be increased. According to the experience of Medvezhy Rouchey, they say at ProService Taimyr, where a similar mobile kitchen operates, more than fifty seats with a round-the-clock occupancy of the canteen are enough to feed everyone.

“We plan for it to work here for at least a year, after which we will move it to another enterprise, where the main canteen will be renovated. After all, these are long-term projects: the concept, equipment are changed, a complete renovation is carried out. So time is needed during which the workers will not go hungry thanks to the mobile kitchen. This is in line with one of the company’s values - caring for people. And the stationary canteens, by the way, turn out very beautiful: the management of the Polar Division and specific enterprises approach the matter competently”, said Mikhail Vodopyanov.

It should be noted that some time ago, the menu was updated in the canteens of all Polar Division enterprises: three chefs work with the ProService Taimyr company on a permanent basis. One of them, Andrey Damaskin, will also patronize the mobile canteen at the Komsomolsky mine. The chef has solid experience working in different cities and countries: he started in Chelyabinsk, then taught for two years at the Russian-British Institute of Management and worked in Russian-Austrian schools, worked for two years in Vietnam, and completed an internship in France and Switzerland. In recent years, he worked in a restaurant holding in Novy Urengoy. Andrey Damaskin is confident that it is important to bring new trends to feeding at working place and teach local chefs new flavor combinations and ingredients.

On the first day, the canteen staff prepared portions for about 800 visitors. And all that was done by eight kitchen workers.
