#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. A solemn ceremony of opening a memorial plaque to the outstanding statesman, honorary citizen of the Krasnoyarsk region Vladimir Ivanovich Dolgih took place in Krasnoyarsk.

The deputy prime minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak, governor of the Krasnoyarsk region Mikhail Kotyukov, representatives of government bodies and regional associations, Vladimir Ivanovich Dolgih’s family and many other honored guests attended the event.

The event was timed to coincide with two festive dates – the 100th anniversary of Vladimir Dolgih’s birth and the 90th anniversary of the region, the Krasnoyarsk region governor and government’s press service reported.

Alexander Novak, deputy prime minister of the Russian Federation, noted at the opening ceremony that Vladimir Ivanovich Dolgih lived a bright and eventful life:

“His biography is well known, but I would like to emphasize once again that this man devoted his entire life to serving the Fatherland. He rightfully bears the title of Honorary Citizen of Norilsk and the Krasnoyarsk Territory. When Vladimir Ivanovich became the first secretary of the region’s Central Committee of the CPSU, a program was developed that became the basis for the region’s industry development. The coal and energy industries were developing, he managed the oil, gas and coal industries, non-ferrous and ferrous metallurgy. Under him, these industries experienced explosive development, and in our post-perestroika times, he devoted himself to providing the necessary legislative framework for the development of the country. He was a great man”.

Recall that Vladimir Dolgih’s centenary was celebrated on December 5. He is an outstanding son of the Krasnoyarsk region: a political and public figure, Doctor of Technical Sciences, participant in the Great Patriotic War, twice Hero of Socialist Labor, innovative engineer and legendary head of the Norilsk combine. The legacy of Vladimir Dolgih still largely determines the development of the region. It is he who has a great merit in creating a powerful economic, defense, scientific and cultural potential of the regions of the Far North and the entire Krasnoyarsk region.

Mikhail Kotyukov, the Krasnoyarsk region’s governor, said that he was lucky to know the hero of the day personally:

“Vladimir Ivanovich gave his whole life to people: wherever he lived, wherever he worked – from Ilansky to Moscow through Krasnoyarsk and Norilsk – he always did the maximum possible, even more than others assumed. Thanks to Vladimir Ivanovich, Norilsk got a second wind, in fact, today we have a city that was created largely through his efforts. In Norilsk, we founded the lyceum named after Vladimir Dolgih – a serious, modern educational institution. The memory of the legendary great countrymen should be passed on from generation to generation. As long as we remember the man, he is with us!”

For everyone who attended the ceremony, Vladimir Ivanovich was a good friend, mentor and example of conscientious service to his cause for many years.

“The second birth of Norilsk in the 1960s is associated with the name of Vladimir Ivanovich. It was he who became the founder of the idea of developing the Talnah deposit, which led to a sharp breakthrough in the development of the northern territories of the Krasnoyarsk region. The current generation of miners and metallurgists are followers of the great cause of Dolgih. Norilsk residents, Nornickel employees apply and improve the experience he has accumulated, and today we are actually experiencing the third birth of the city and the combine: a large-scale renovation of Norilsk is underway, the environmental Sulfur Program has been launched, production is becoming more and more technologically advanced, and the deposits discovered under Vladimir Ivanovich are thriving and being modernized”, emphasized Nikolay Utkin, first vice president, head of the Block for Interaction with Government Authorities at Nornickel.

A memorial plaque to Vladimir Ivanovich Dolgih was installed on the facade of the house on Lenin street where he lived. The author of the bas-relief is honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts, sculptor Konstantin Zinich.

Earlier, we reported that an exhibition dedicated to the anniversary of Dolgih opened in Norilsk.
