Responsible services have started measures to prevent the threat of an emergency caused by the low water level of the Norilskaya river. The water level to limit water consumption is 11.5 meters, the pump stop level is 11 meters. Today, at the first water intake, the level is 12.96 meters, which gives a free supply of 1.46 meters. Over the past few days, the level has stabilized, and there is a positive trend.
The authorities have formed a package of documents for the municipality to receive a water body for temporary use for dredging, blasting, drilling and other work related to changing the bottom and banks of the low-water rock-fill dam, if such a need arises.
Nikolay Timofeyev, acting head of the city, noted that the main task now is to prevent the city from being left without water:
“We understand that if the water level drops sharply and we do not work to restrict the channel, the population of the Central District will have to be evacuated, it is 110 thousand people. Taking into account all the risks, we are following the path of compliance with the legislation of the Russian Federation, we take this water body for use. Yes, there are costs ahead, and we will cover them, because the main thing is that the population does not suffer. And specialized institutes will tell us which version of the issue will be acceptable for our territory”, summed up Nikolay Timofeyev.
