#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. North of Greenland and Ellesmere Island, in the so-called last ice bastion of the Earth, Canadian scientists have found a crack with an area of three thousand square meters, which is comparable to the size of Luxembourg. Expert.ru with reference to phys.org. writes about this.
There is very thick ice in this area, and no one has seen any ice hole in the area before, according to researchers at the University of Toronto. It was formed last spring during a long anticyclone.
Strong gusts of wind sometimes push ice blocks, but this has not happened so far from the coast before. Scientists explain that this happens due to the fact the ice in the Arctic is getting thinner. This can lead to further active melting of glaciers and disruption of the ecosystem.
