Altai and Trans-Baikal regions, as well as the Kemerovo region, occupy the leading positions throughout the year. Krasnoyarsk region, Samara region, Republic of Tatarstan, Nizhny Novgorod and Novosibirsk regions, Saratov and Sverdlovsk regions are also in the top 10 most positive ones.
“The sentiment of comments study was based on machine learning algorithms that determined the emotional coloring of user statements. In total, the social network has 43 million active users throughout Russia”, the press service of the social network noted.
We also compiled a rating of the regions, the inhabitants of which more often expressed negative emotions. At the end of 2020, it was headed by Primorsky and Khabarovsk regions. True, during the first wave of the pandemic, they ceded leadership to Moscow and the Moscow region, as well as St. Petersburg, whose residents were quite heatedly discussing strict sanitary-restrictive measures. However, by the end of the year, Primorsky and Khabarovsk region rose again to the top lines.
Social network experts noted that in the last months of 2020, the number of negative reactions has noticeably decreased in all regions. It could also be related to the pandemic, which has become the most talked about topic of the entire year.
In early December, Russian president Vladimir Putin noted an increase in human positive qualities during the spread of COVID-19. According to him, Russians have become more responsive, kind, united, rethought life and began to appreciate it more over this year.
