#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. A full version of the interactive atlas of indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia, and the Far East has been launched in Russia. They include about 260 thousand people. Project manager, vice-rector for research at the Russian State University for the Humanities (RSUH) Olga Pavlenko explained that the interactive atlas clearly presents the history and modern life of each ethnic group. It includes materials on the development of the Arctic, and settlement maps from the Middle Ages to the present day.
Senator Grigory Ledkov, president of the Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia, and the Far East of the Russian Federation, noted in an interview with TASS that the 40 peoples described in the atlas are settled in 28 constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
“Each nation, ethnic group has its own history of creation, each has its own unique native language, national clothing and traditional economic methods. In general, of course, they are similar, especially reindeer herding, for example, and what unites us is that we all live in extreme conditions, far from infrastructure. This is the main distinguishing feature of our 40 nations”, Ledkov added.
The project was launched in 2021 with the participation of representatives of the indigenous ethnic groups of the Russian Federation.
As a reminder, state support for the indigenous peoples of the Krasnoyarsk region’s North will be increased in 2025. Earlier, nomadic kindergartens began operating in Taimyr.
