Good deeds are forged in Taimyr youth center

The flagship program We are Together attracts young people to socially useful activities.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The flagship program We are Together has been operating in the Taimyr youth center for several years. The participants of the volunteer movement from 14 to 35 years old can prove themselves in various spheres of life.

“We have about a hundred people in the movement, mostly teenagers, schoolchildren, who, depending on the request, can actively show themselves in one or another good deed”, said the program curator and volunteers’ mentor Anna Sitnikova.

The children have many opportunities to realize their potential and apply their labor for the society benefit.

For example, they visit pensioners and people with limited mobility at home, fulfilling their requests and assignments, for example, cleaning their room, buying groceries, and so on.

“This is a profound topic, because by helping such citizens, volunteers replenish the warmth of their souls, as many have grandparents living on the mainland. And elderly citizens are happy to have young guests, because in old age it is so nice to have attention”, Anna noted.

The volunteers do not forget about animals either – throughout the year they visit shelters for homeless cats and bring them food and everything necessary, which is donated in advance by residents of Dudinka.

“A good deed is always interaction, an exchange of positive energy. We have events when schoolchildren come to the elderly at the house of mercy and together with them develop fine motor skills: sort out beads, play chess and play musical instruments. Our volunteers also come to the children’s shelter – they communicate, play and spend time with them”, the movement curator shared.

In addition, being a volunteer is also useful. The We are Together program implements the I am a Barber project, where Anna teaches children how to cut hair, and those who have more or less mastered the basics of hairdressing can use their skill with elderly charges.

And schoolchildren also learn to sew.

“We invite a girl with disabilities to sewing classes, teach her how to mend clothes, and communicate with her along the way. Recently our young volunteers sewed towels themselves, which is also a very useful skill”, Anna noted.
