#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The main city square improvement facilities will be repaired using funds donated to the city by the Nornickel company on the Dudinka’s 355th anniversary celebration day.
On Naberezhnaya square, it is planned to level the soil failures under the paving slabs, mount a more convenient parapet structure, repair the 50 Years of October obelisk and the monument to Lenin. In addition, specialists are working on a preliminary design for the repair of the monument-chapel in honor of the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, dedicated to the political repression victims, and the territory adjacent to it.
The obelisk in honor of the 50th anniversary of Soviet power and the monument to Lenin repair began at the end of August. According to the project, the monuments’ podiums will be covered with ceramic granite tiles, the upper part of the stele will be cleaned and plastered with decorative plaster, while the inscription and relief image will be preserved. The paving slabs at the stele base will be replaced with a lawn. It is interesting that during the dismantling process a historical inscription was found – From the Taimyr Komsomol – on the end wall of the 50 Years of October stele. The tablet is planned to be transferred for storage to the Taimyr Local Lore Museum.
Recall that the obelisk in honor of the establishment of Soviet power, located near the Taimyr and Dudinka administration building, was installed in 1967. The stele symbolizes the connection and continuity of generations, memory and gratitude to the Soviet feat. The monument to Vladimir Lenin opening took place in Dudinka on December 6, 1980. The sculptor Gennady Potapov, as well as architects Alexander Kositsyn and Irina Lyalyakina worked on the project.
