#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The regional government approved the state program Preservation and Development of the Indigenous Peoples’s Traditional Way of Life and Economic Activities.
Over three years, the program funding will amount to more than 2.7 billion rubles from the regional and federal budgets, while the region will allocate more than 2.6 billion for support.
In particular, in 2024, monthly compensation payments to fishermen in Taimyr and the Turuhansky region will increase, costs for the construction of housing for reindeer herders will increase, and funds are provided for the publication of literature in the indigenous ethnic groups’ languages, reports the Krasnoyarsk region government’s press service.
Also, next year in the north of the region they plan to build at least 23 houses for families engaged in traditional types of economic activity, and to support entrepreneurial initiatives of local residents in the amount of over 20 million rubles. Costs for the traditional tents, snowmobiles, boats, fuels and first aid kits purchase will be indexed by five percent. A total of 921.2 million rubles are planned for state program activities in 2024.
Together with government funding for construction, private funding is also being provided: the Nornickel company helps to build residential buildings and social facilities in Taimyr villages, introduce online education and publish educational manuals.
