#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Once upon a time, there were many small lakes and reservoirs on the current Norilsk development site.
To this day, only one of them has survived inside the Norilsk buildings – Gorodskoye (City lake). According to local historian Vyacheslav Blohin, it used to be called Cozy. The remaining lakes were filled up during the city construction in different years.
Often, the townspeople call the City lake Shkolnoe (School), because the buildings of schools No. 16, 17 and 23 were built on its banks. But this is a mistake: the School one is a completely different lake situated in the Old town, not far from the first Norilsk school.
From year to year the authorities try to turn the shores of the City lake into a recreation area. Once upon a time, a hockey rink was set up on its ice. In the new century, a fountain was installed there, it was planned to place lamps, benches and small architectural forms, pave walking paths with tiles, and even a children’s cafe. Now they want to clean the lake bottom from the garbage that has accumulated there for years.
