#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. In Krasnoyarsk, members of the public-expert council under the regional governor gathered to discuss improvements in environmental conditions in cities participating in the federal Clean Air project: Minusinsk, Achinsk, Lesosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, and Norilsk.
Experts highlighted the progress made in reducing emissions, noting that the total emissions from all sources have decreased by an average of 30.23 percent compared to the baseline figure from 2017, as reported on the official Krasnoyarsk region portal.
In the regional capital, environmental modernization has been completed for five enterprises, while work continues on six others. Significant attention has been focused on transitioning the private sector to more eco-friendly heating solutions, such as gas, automatic solid-fuel boilers, and electric heating.
In Norilsk, a key initiative is the implementation of the Sulfur Program by Nornickel. In December, the federal service for supervision of natural resources confirmed the program’s effectiveness.
Improving air quality in these cities is a top priority for local authorities. Rashid Ismailov, chairman of the Public-Expert Council on Ecology under the governor and head of the Russian Ecological Society, emphasized Krasnoyarsk region’s active role in national environmental protection projects.
While some critical environmental goals have been achieved, regional head Mikhail Kotyukov noted that much work still lies ahead, including Krasnoyarsk region’s initiatives that require federal support.
The press service of the governor and regional government emphasized that engaging a broad range of experts in discussions about urgent environmental issues enables regional authorities to develop well-informed, scientifically-based strategies to tackle current challenges and enhance the effectiveness of their efforts.
Earlier, This Is Taimyr reported that Nornickel, which reduced emissions by 734 000 tons, made the largest contribution to the Clean Air initiative among 126 industrial enterprises involved in the federal project. The Russian Ministry of Natural Resources recognized the achievements of this mining and metallurgical giant.
