#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. In total, 34 million 34 thousand tons of cargo were transported along the Northern Sea Route in 2022, the target indicator of the Northern Sea Route Development federal project was exceeded by two million tons. According to the Glavsevmorput, during 2022, the cargo traffic increased primarily due to the transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
“The LNG transportation exceeded the same indicator in 2021 by 1.2 million tons (1 258 thousand tons), the container cargo transportation increased by 226 thousand tons, the bulk cargo transportation increased by 109 thousand tons. Novatek and Nornickel can be noted among the leaders in terms of growing cargo traffic. A serious contribution to the total cargo traffic along the NSR is made by Gazpromneft”, said Sergey Zybko, the Glavsevmorput head.
Seven nuclear-powered ships are currently operating in the Northern Sea Route waters to provide icebreaking support for Arctic investment projects, three of which are the most powerful in the world: Arctica, Ural and Sibir.
Earlier, we wrote about a long-term agreement between Nornickel and Rosatom for icebreaking assistance in the Arctic seas.
