#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The emerging competition among northern cities is evidenced by the fact that at meetings of their representatives, disputes arise about who is further north, who should be called the capital of the Arctic. But against this background, Norilsk is objectively and indisputably the leader, since here mechanisms for modernizing the urban environment are already working, infrastructure renewal programs and important social projects have been launched.
“Today we’ve shown the Eastern Development minister Alexey Chekunkov the objects of the comprehensive city development plan, the breakthrough ideas that we are implementing, and the technologies that we are using. And, most importantly, we’ve tried to show the overall development of Norilsk, both in terms of landscaping, ecology, transport accessibility and many other aspects”, the Norilsk head Dmitry Karasev said.
In order for the modernization plans to begin to come true, its participants took a very long time to sign the latest quadripartite agreement; they had to overcome many difficulties.
“Thanks to the Ministry for the Far East and Arctic Development and its head personally, we managed to convince federal structures that this plan is necessary. To date, it has been possible to organize serious monitoring in the industry, establish stable contacts with contractors and identify priority objects of a comprehensive plan. The first successful projects were the fire station in Oganer and the newly opened specialists’ house on Solnechny passage. Work in this direction continues”, said Valery Semenov, Krasnoyarsk region deputy governor for interaction with federal authorities.
