The new social project of the Nornickel company is aimed at developing the infrastructure of the peninsula, ethno-tourism and traditional crafts.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. In Dudinka, in the Taimyr College, a three-day seminar on social design was held for the participants of the World of Taimyr Nornickel grant competition. In addition, the experts gave a master class on filling out documents.

Recall that the new social project World of Taimyr covers the cultural and linguistic heritage of indigenous peoples, support for gifted children, the development of alternative sources of energy and heat. It is aimed at the development of the infrastructure of Taimyr, ethno-tourism, traditional types of economic activity. Depending on the categories (there are four of them in the competition), the amount of grants ranges from 1.5 million to 6.5 million rubles.

The World of Taimyr project is one of the important components of Nornickel’s development strategy until 2030. The competition has already received 81 applications, about twenty are from Dudinka, the authors of others live in villages.

The participants of the seminar shared their problems – they are unemployment of the population, loss of skills of primordial crafts, lack of premises, tools and materials.

“About 85 percent of the project teams we work with now have never been involved in social design with the support of charitable programs. Therefore, we decided to help these active, caring people at the start of the competition. A federal-level expert is assigned to each project team. The face-to-face seminar will also give the participants good knowledge”, said Oleg Marfin, one of the seminar leaders, director of the autonomous non-profit organization Krasnoyarsk Regional Center for Support of Local Communities Development.

The Belyaev family from the village of Karaul, for example, decided to develop tourism. The goal of the project is to form an attractive tourist image of the settlement through the improvement of streets, an entrance sign, the creation of viewing platforms, play complexes. The authors create a new face of the village. The plans include the revival of the Cossack prison.

“Many people in Taimyr, unfortunately, do not know how indigenous ethnic groups live, their folk art and traditions. There are no professional artists in the settlement who could decorate Karaul in a stylish and original way. The village will celebrate its 405th birthday this year. This is a place with a rich history, and it can be attractive for tourists”, said Olesya Belyaeva, a participant of the competition, a teacher of painting at the Karaul children’s art school.

At the seminar in Dudinka, the participants of the World of Taimyr competition were also looking for partners, people wrote down each other’s contacts, and agreed on future cooperation.

Applications for the competition are accepted until February 25. The winners will be awarded at the celebration of Reindeer Herder’s Day in April.

As a reminder, the indigenous minorities’ representatives have been taking an active part in the competition of social projects of the World of New Opportunities Nornickel charitable program since 2013. Ten family (clan) communities, five non-profit organizations of indigenous minorities and 21 budgetary institutions in the Taimyr settlements received grants in the amount of 88 million rubles.
