#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. 27 participants applied: 12 individual applicants and 15 consortia, a total of 73 companies. This was reported by the Norilsk Development Agency.
Let us remind you that the competition started in July at the initiative of the municipality and the Norilsk Development Agency, with the support of the Nornickel company. The operator of the competition is the international urban laboratory CENTER Lab.
Applicants registered on the project website norilsk2035.ru, provided a portfolio and essays that took into account the uniqueness of Norilsk’s geographical position, climate, historical features of the development and a new vision of the territory – its development as a world-class non-ferrous metallurgy center, and as a center of competence, knowledge and research in Arctic.
The geography of the participants is extensive – 13 countries, 22 cities. Applications of architectural firms from Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk, Kazan, Kirovsk, Yakutsk, Reutov and Saratov), Great Britain (London), Denmark (Copenhagen), Belarus (Minsk), China (Changchun), Turkey (Istanbul), India (Mumbai), USA (Charlottesville), Canada (Toronto), France (Paris and Charenton), the Netherlands (Utrecht), Sweden (Stockholm) and Norway (Tromsö and Bodö) have been approved.
“On October 19, a jury consisting of experts in the field of integrated development of territories, ecology, economics and spatial planning, marketing and communications, technologies and innovations from Russia and abroad will determine three finalists who will develop competitive proposals. They will have to propose their solutions to increase the attractiveness of Norilsk for life, study and work, improve the social activity of urban areas, improve existing facilities, as well as develop transport and engineering infrastructures”, the organizers said.
The results of the competition will be announced in March 2022. Recall that the creation of an architectural and planning concept for the renovation of Norilsk until 2035 is an important stage in the city’s social-economic development program, provided for by a quadripartite agreement between the governments of the Russian Federation and the Krasnoyarsk region, the Norilsk municipality and Nornickel.
