#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Festive events on May 9 were held at all venues in the central district of the Big Norilsk as well as in Talnah, Kayerkan and Snezhnogorsk. Norilsk residents were able to attend concerts, film screenings, see dance programs and take part in the athletics run.
In the morning, the holiday began in the central district with a military equipment parade. The parade continued with a solemn ceremony at the Eternal Flame with the participation of veterans and rear servicemen.
“Norilsk occupies a special place in the history of the Great Patriotic War. Our countrymen – miners, metallurgists, engineers and ordinary workers of the Norilsk combine – made an invaluable contribution to the war result. Thanks to their strength, courage and unbending fortitude, today Norilsk bears the honorary title of the Labor Valor City.
We venerate our Motherland defenders’ feat, I am sincerely proud of our fellow countrymen, who today are worthy of defending our city, our region, our country”, said Norilsk mayor Dmitry Karasev in his congratulatory speech at the Victory Parade.
At noon, the townspeople could see the concert program Big Norilsk to the Great Victory on Komsomolskaya square. Here, near the Museum, the festive program Regimental Dugout started. The exhibition project They Made Movies About the War presented materials from the State Central Cinema Museum (Moscow) collections. Until the evening, the public library hosted the Book About a Fighter festive program participants.
At the 1945 Meters traditional track and field run, the participants ran the distance from Komsomolskaya square to Theater one and back. At the theater at that time, the City Cultural Center unfolded the Rio Rita dance program.
The Victory Day attribute – field kitchens with soldier porridge – was deployed near the Rodina cinema. It was possible to participate in the We have not Forgotten song flash mob on the ground floor of the Arena sports and entertainment complex.
On the eve of May 9, the Great Patriotic War veterans were congratulated in Norilsk: Nornickel volunteers presented them flowers, and the Norilsk garrison and Yunarmiya fighters marched in front of veteran Dmitry Konoplya’s house.
