#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The topic of supplying animals was discussed by China and Russia at the 12th meeting of the Russian-Chinese working group on cooperation in the field of veterinary supervision, phytosanitary control and food safety.
The Chinese side is interested in live reindeer. By the end of June this year, Rosselhoznadzor is going to send information to its Chinese colleagues to assess the risk of supplying these animals to China, Interfax writes.
At the 12th meeting of the Russian-Chinese permanent working group, which took place in early June of this year, issues of cooperation in the field of veterinary supervision, phytosanitary control and food safety were discussed. The Russian delegation at the meeting was represented by the head of Rosselhoznadzor, Konstantin Savenkov, and China was represented by the deputy head of the General Customs Administration of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Lintszun.
It is assumed that after all the nuances have been worked out, deer will be supplied from the North of Siberia and Yakutia. However, representatives of both countries note that compared to the Soviet period, the number of reindeer has noticeably decreased. According to Rosstat, at the end of 2022 there were more than one and a half million reindeer in Russia. Now several Siberian enterprises are engaged in the deer meat production.
In March of this year, the Chinese delegation negotiated the supply of meat processing products from Yamal. A little later, the Chinese side made proposals to export live deer to China. At the same time, statistics indicate that due to the decline in numbers, the export of live reindeer is insignificant. Over the past six years, only one hundred animals have been sent abroad from our country for breeding.
