Arctic oil goes to China

July 13, 2020

The cargo delivery took 47 days.

The tanker route from Murmansk to the port of the Chinese city of Yantai ran through the Arctic seas and three oceans.

“The development of cooperation with key Asian refiners allowed Gazpromneft to expand its supply lines and include China, whose economy is actively recovering from the consequences of the pandemic, in the Arctic oil shipments map”, Arctic.ru quoted the Gazpromneft press office.

It is reported that Gazpromneft, since the start of exporting oil extracted in the Russian Arctic, has delivered more than 40 million tons of oil to the European countries of the ARCO varieties (Prirazlomnoye field) and Novy Port (Novoportovskoye field). At the same time, the company’s transport and logistics scheme includes the Prirazlomnaya oil production platform, the Arctic Gate oil terminal in the Gulf of Ob, a reinforced ice class tanker fleet, including LNG-fuel vessels, escort icebreakers and a road transshipment complex in Murmansk. Efficiency and safety of work are ensured by the world’s first digital Arctic logistics management system Captain.

“Successful experience in selling the Arctic oil on the European market and a deep understanding of the markets of the Asia-Pacific region allow Gazpromneft to offer Novy Port with a unique year-round logistics scheme to Asian partners. Taking into account the company’s plans to expand the geography of the Arctic oil supplies, the development of cooperation with buyers from China and other Asia-Pacific countries is of strategic importance to us”, said Anatoly Cherner, Deputy General Director of Gazpromneft for Logistics, Processing and Sales.
