Polar Bear met guests

October 12, 2020

70 thousand virtual guests came to the Polar Bear’s birthday.

The second birthday was celebrated by the Polar Bear Norilsk educational center. This time, due to the pandemic, the center was unable to invite all guests to its place and organized a holiday online. More than 70 thousand guests have connected to the broadcast.

Let us remind you that the Polar Bear center is part of the Save the Polar Bear project. This is a joint program of the Ecological Fund of the Siberian Federal University and PORA (The Arctic Development Project Office), which is being implemented in the Krasnoyarsk region.

The center was opened on October 4, 2018 – on World Animal Protection Day. Therefore, the teachers and students of the center not only held interesting live master classes for the audience in the TIME to the Arctic! group, but also told about the animals of Taimyr, which are listed in the Red Book. The Taimyr Reserves Federal State Budgetary Institution science department head Leonid Kolpashchikov took part in the celebration. He talked about the lifestyle of polar bears and how scientists track the migration of these animals. The broadcast can be viewed on the active link.

“Over the two years of its existence, the Polar Bear educational center has fallen in love not only with young Norilsk residents, but also with residents of other regions. Before the pandemic, the staff of the Arctic Development Project Office (PORA) regularly conducted lessons from the Polar Bear program in Moscow schools and at various events in Moscow and other cities of the country. In the spring and summer of 2020, children from Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Krasnodar and Habarovsk regions studied remotely at the center. In the next academic year, a similar center is planned to be opened in the Murmansk region”, said the PORA press office specialists.

As the This Is Taimyr previously wrote, on the eve of its birthday, the Polar Bear educational center launched a flash mob on Instagram. Subscribers sent creative video postcards to the main character of the project – the polar bear Plombir. He received congratulations from different regions of Russia and even from Kazakhstan. The Polar Bear got songs, crafts, poems and cartoons. The most creative guys received gifts from the Arctic Development Project Office and the Siberian Federal University Eco Fund.
